Iolite derives from the Greek word violet.

The Mohs’ hardness is 7 – 7,5.

It is also called Cordierite and Dichroite.

Iolites have a strong pleochroic ability , recognizable in changing color appearance when looking in different directions.

Deposits found in Burma (Myanmar), Brazil, India, Madagascar, Sri Lanka and the United States.
